Each year, along select coastlines of the world, an extraordinary natural event unfolds, the
Arribada, a phenomenon where tens of thousands of Olive Ridley sea turtles emerge from the ocean in near perfect synchronicity to lay their eggs on the very beaches where they themselves once hatched. This synchronised nesting is one of nature’s most remarkable displays of instinct and
endurance. The female turtles, guided by magnetic and chemical cues, dig their nests under the cover of night, depositing dozens of eggs in carefully prepared chambers.
Yet, the Arribada is a fragile miracle. The eggs and hatchlings face constant threats: predators, flooding tides, poachers, and rising temperatures that can alter the very balance of
life within the nests. Conservationists and volunteers work tirelessly to protect these sites, ensuring that at least a fraction of the hatchlings survive the perilous journey to the sea.
